Road Trippin'

Our cross country drive, of course, didn't go as planned. We loaded up our trailer and decided we needed a taller hitch and ball for the car. So we headed out with plans for a quick stop to switch out the ball. But finding a store with the right size was nearly impossible. We eventually found one and hit the road 4 hours later than planned. Our first stop was Denver. We did a short drive the first day and stayed with Josh's grandma that night. We got in so much later than planned and I felt just terrible! They had planned a little party for Elliott's birthday (since we were driving on her birthday) with cake and presents and we got there at like 10pm! But we still did cake and presents and then headed to bed.

We noticed pulling into Denver that one of the wheels on the trailer looked a little crooked. After further inspection, it seemed the axle was broken. So frustrating. The person who sold us the (homemade) trailer, told us the capacity was about double what it actually was. And while it was very frustrating, we are SOOOO thankful that everything played out the way it did. It never broke on us while driving (which could have easily flipped our car) and when we did notice it was broken and needed to stay an extra night to get rid of it and rent a new one, we were with family in a home. It really could not have worked out better.

So that day, we got rid of the old trailer, rented a uhaul trailer, moved everything from ours to the new one and then spent the night with Josh's grandma Linda and his aunt and uncle and cousins. I'm so glad we got to see more of them than planned.

The next day it was back on the road. The next few days are a blur. We drove between 12-14 hours the next two days. We wanted so badly to get the trip done in two days after our stop in Denver. But we just couldn't. We stopped the second day (post Denver) late at night just about 4 hours from Columbia. We were just too tired. But we did make it Columbia! It took us 5 days total. It was long and exhausting but our girls were perfect angels which I am so very thankful for. Elliott did an amazing job of entertaining herself and keeping herself busy with games and toys and books and Piper was always happy if she had a snack or a toy. They really were so amazing for us.

It was long, and it was hard being separate (Josh driving the element towing the trailer and me in the second car with the girls) but we made it! And we are so happy we did!

We started our trek across the country on Elliott's birthday. Three years old!

Ready to leave!

My view for five days.

Arrived at Aunt Pam's late and opened birthday gifts!

Broken trailer. Time to move everything. Thanks to Pam and Paul for their help!!

And thanks to Grandma for playing with Elliott!

Note to self: bananas are not good car time snacks.

Windy in Kansas.

Cracker Barrel stop for dinner.

We're almost there!
