Sat-eerrrrr-day

This past Saturday we spent the day with Morgan, Jenn, baby Jane, Jacob and Valerie. It was so much fun. We drove up to Salt Lake in the morning with a stop at IKEA of course. We spent quite a while walking around IKEA looking at everything. Jane was being carried around so we all took turns holding her. Of course Josh and I put her in everything we could fit her in, and took pictures...

[oh! hello]

After IKEA we headed up to SLC for lunch at Tony Caputo's. This place is to die for. We went while we were up in SLC for our anniversary and Josh has been craving it since so we thought we would take our friends to try it too. I think everyone liked it. We ate lunch, walked around what was left of the Farmers Market (we have plans to go back for that), bought some fresh meats and cheeses from the market and then walked to the mall. We just walked around Urban Outfitters and then got shakes at Ben and Jerry's. By that time our feet were all so tired so perched ourselves on a bench while Morgan walked back to the car to pick us up. Thanks Morgan!

[super sweet]

[cute girl!]

Well, after that the girls and Morgan headed back home while Josh and Jacob stayed for a concert that night. They went to a Flaming Lips Concert and Josh had the time of his life. He loved it so much. His videos are pretty awesome. Maybe I'll try to convince him to write a post about it. Well, I got home and then went over to Morgan and Jenn's to hang out since it was a Saturday night and I was husbandless. Well, since we were planning on having a BBQ on Sunday we needed to make sure the grill was ready to go. Josh wanted me to turn it on and make sure I could get it nice and hot because it hadn't been heating up very great recently. Well, we got the grill to Morgan's house and I was trying to light it. After many failed attempts (and the assumption that it was out of gas) I lifted the grate and dish and hit the ignite button only to have a giant fireball consume my face.

[i imagine it looked something like this...]

kidding, of course

Thank goodness it wasn't any worse than it was though. My hair was singed all through the front as were my eyebrows, eyelashes and basically all the hair on my face (my upper lip is all prickly now). I feel pretty lucky considering though. Morgan was there to witness the craziness of it all and said the fireball was about 4 feet wide by 5 feet tall and about 2 feet deep. Pretty scary. I'm fine. I'm just sad that my hair is a little crazy.

[happy to be alive]

Well, the grill still wasn't working very well so I ran to the store to get a new tank. The old tank was still half full, but something must have been wrong with it. Not sure. Well, I hung out with Morgan and Jenn the rest of the night (sorry for stinking up your house with my nasty burned hair).

Which...leads into Sunday. On Sunday we went over to Morgan and Jenn's and made delicious pizza on the grill with our fresh ingredients from Tony Caputo's with everyone. They were amazing. Compliments to chef Joshua. After dinner we played Settlers of Catan (as always). It was such a fun night! I love our friends.

This is an old set of pictures of the six of us at the mall. We had so much fun taking these!!

[this is just for your enjoyment]

ha.

Teaching

I wrote a few lesson plans this past week that I will be teaching this week! I'm teaching Wednesday and Thursday and then taking over the show next week! I'm pretty excited. But I was also in charge of designing a couple of centers. I was in charge of the dramatic play and the creative center. So the dramatic play is now a doctors office! It was so much fun putting together and today the kids played in it and absolutely loved it. There were 2 little boys that would just sit in the waiting room coughing and coughing. It was adorable.

Random Things

Here are some random pictures from...lately.

I'm kind of obsessed with Instagram and I love taking pictures of my face...haha

Baby Jane is as cute as ever!

Kendal got a scooter and it's super fun to ride.

Our classroom got caterpillars that now look like...

this! They should be turning to butterflies in about a week!

Our Bed

I love our bed. I have been wanting new bedding for sometime but Josh has always said that there was no reason to get new bedding (he was right). Our bedding was a wedding gift from my mom, very pricey and really nice. But I was just ready for a change, you know? Well, our sheets got a hole so we decided to just buy some sheets. But then, Josh surprised me with a trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond to pick out new bedding! I was so excited. It was such a sweet surprise. I love it so much! It's a duvet so we have a big fluffy down comforter inside and we both just love everything about it!

It's kind of hard to tell, but the birds are stitched on. They are beautiful!

Classroom Excitement

Last week, this week and in the coming week...

  • The kids were adorable
  • The kids proved how smart they all are on my pre-assessments
  • We started learning about bees
  • A parent brought in a beehive and we got to taste the raw honey
  • We added two caterpillars to our classroom that will be turning into butterflies in the next 2 weeks
  • We will be adding some fuzzy caterpillars as well this week
  • 2 different boys on different occasions came out the bathroom with their pants around their ankles...yikes, "get back in the stall, get back in the stall!"
  • I will be teaching my first lesson tomorrow
  • I will be creating 2 centers and doing 2 of my numeracy lessons next week
  • I cleaned up 2 scraped knees
  • I loved every minute of it
I love teaching! I love everything about it. I can't wait to start preparing more lessons and teaching these kids all I know!

One Week Down

The first week of my student teaching is officially over. I can't say that I did any teaching but I did get to meet 30 adorable children! I will be teaching a few lessons this week and even more the next as I prepare to take over the classroom for a few weeks. I'm getting excited but I'm also really nervous. It's been a long time since I've been with children this young and I feel out of the loop on how to best teach them. I feel like all my plans so far will be too difficult. I'll let you know how they go.

During the week I only took 2 naps. I'm pretty proud. One was 35 minutes...and the other was 3 hours and 35 minutes...whoops. What can I say? Children are tiring
