Seriously, these children changed my life. I couldn't have asked for a better six weeks. I got to get to know these kids in class, at lunch and out at recess. Being with them made me realize how much I love teaching. I loved sitting down with each of them and learning together. Some of them were more challenging than others but I loved them all the same. I loved them for their challenges; it made them who they were.
On my last day I brought them all ring pops with little individual notes. Their notes said, "Thanks for being such a gem! Good luck next year! Love Mrs. Titus"
This was my last day (you can see they all have their ring pops).
In the morning of my last day Ms. Windley (my coordinating teacher) asked me to come up front because they had something for me.
They presented me with this...
Now, this book needs a little background. For one of my lessons I read a book to them called The Important Book. This book takes different objects and tells the most important thing about it. Then it lists a bunch of other things about it and restates the most important thing about it. Here is a line from the book, "The important thing about rain is that it is wet. It falls out of the sky, and it sounds like rain, and makes things shiny, and it does not taste like anything, and is the color of air. But the important thing about rain is that it is wet." The book taught them about main idea and supporting detail.
So, the students made me a book called The Important Book. Every student made their own page where they wrote about the most important things about me! :) They also illustrated them. It's such a treasure. Here are a few of my favorite pages...
I'm saying, "So do that. Ok?" And she's replying with, "I like you."
The page on the left reads, "The important thing about Mrs. Titus is she is friendly. She teaches, helps you learn, she is nice. But the important thing about Mrs. Titus is she is friendly." The picture is the student at his desk and me teaching.
The page on the right reads, "the important thing about Mrs. Titus is she's nice. She likes us, she's helpful and she's kind. But the important thing about Mrs. Titus is she's nice." The picture with this one is of me and the student playing catch.
A few of the girls drew us as twins. :)
In the picture on the right I have a cape and I'm saying, "I'll help." Apparently I'm a super teacher!
In the picture on the left I'm saying, "I like that." She is saying, "Your kind."
The picture on the right just cracks me up. That's me in the front teaching and all the students sitting in their desks. How adorable is that?!
Long story short, these students made my practicum experience everything that it was. They touched my heart. Here's to hoping I touched their hearts a little bit too.
**All students had parent permission to have their pictures taken**

Awwww. So, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteDanna, that was so, so cool. What a sweet thing for them to do for you. I bet you just loved it!!
ReplyDeleteI am staying up all night tonight to catch up on cleaning and writing this D&C 42 paper I was supposed to finish long ago (due May 1!) and when I get sleepy I'm reading blogs to catch up and wake myself back up. :) So glad I did. What a cute thing they did for you!
