These pillow covers are literally the easiest thing you'll ever make. And the best part, they slip right off so you can wash them! I ordered 1/2 a yard of five different fabrics (I chose medium weight fabrics so they would be sturdy and hold their shape). My total came to $23.35. Keep in mind that this is for heavy duty, borderline, upholstery fabric.
Start by measuring your pillows. My pillows were standard 18x18 pillows. Add one inch to both the length and width of your pillow size. Cut one square that size. So I cut one square of 19x19 out of each of my fabrics.
All my fabrics with my threads. So pretty.
For the back you will cut two panels. Each one will be your width (plus one inch) divided by 2, plus 3 inches. So I took 19/2=9.5, then 9.5+3=12.5. So I cut (for each pillow) two panels of 12.5 (width) by 19 (length).
So I now have three pieces. One square and two rectangles.
Your next step is to hem the side of your rectangle that will be exposed on the back. Place your square face up and place the two rectangles face down on the square so the edges line up on either side. The two sides that are in the middle of the pillow are the ones you will hem. (See pictures below)
Hem this edge ^^^
And this edge ^^^
Hem that side only on those two panels.
Once those are hemmed you are ready to sew the pillow together. Line everything back up like you had it when figuring out which side to hem (right sides facing each other) and pin it all in place.
Sew all the way around the pillow. Once you have sewn all the way around, trim the edges, turn it right side out, stuff it with a pillow and love it!
Easy right?!
Here they all are!
Before and after.
I love how they turned out. It really adds a lot of color to our living room.
And of course I have to have pictures of my sweet little helper.

Your little helper is just took darn cute! Live the pillows too!
ReplyDeletewow, they look great, and so does that cute little baby. It tickles me that you enjoy to sew.
