Josh's Birthday Celebration

Since Josh's birthday was on a Tuesday and we had an insanely busy week, we pushed his actual celebration to Saturday. (I'm pretty sure I mentioned this in my previous post). Well, it was a fabulous day. I spent most of the morning working on his cake (it took about 4 hours). Morgan and Jenn wanted to go to IKEA to look for some furniture for their new place but I told Josh my cake had to be finished first.

 Doesn't that fondant look flawless!!

It was all trial and error. The only other thing I've done with fondant were those cupcakes. I made three separate batches (one white, one black and one red). The white came out perfect. The color, consistency, everything. I did the red next. The consistency was bad and the color? It looks red in the pictures but it was really just a dark pink. and the black? In case you can't tell, it turned out grayish/purple so I used that black tubing to cover the whole "C". I learned along the way and I think the next cake I do will be better. (FYI, coloring fondant takes a stinking lot of food coloring) But everyone loved it, including Josh. In case you have no idea what it is...go here. It's the South Carolina gamecock!

So the cake was a success, a long, tedious success.

After the cake was finished we headed to IKEA. We spent like 3 hours there before we gave up on life. IKEA is so fun, but so overwhelming. We got so exhausted. We went straight from IKEA to Iggys for dinner. There were 4 couples there. Us, Morgan and Jenn, Jacob and Valerie and Spencer and his fiancĂ©e Alyssa. We had a lot of fun! After dinner we came back to our place for cake. I still have yet to eat a piece (I'm actually not a huge fan of cake) but everyone else claimed it was delicious (I can't imagine why it wouldn't be, the fondant is just powdered sugar and marshmallow).

Adorable! He's even wearing his USC shirt to match.

We ran to Wal-Mart for a few groceries for Sunday and decided to pick up a scary movie for the night. We picked this one.

The description?
"A thriller centered on a young woman and her autistic little brother who are trapped in a house with a ravenous tiger during a hurricane."

Yep, it was that good! It actually wasn't that bad at all. And it was a good scary movie for me. I could actually handle it! Phew. We picked it up because it sounded ridiculous and were almost disappointed in how good it was. Haha

I think we all agreed that this was our favorite scene of the movie. Isn't that tiger just beautiful? He's looking up the laundry shoot where the girl is hiding.

So, Saturday was fabulous. I promise to blog Sunday soon. I'm off to pick up Josh from school and head to work now.
