Utah

The Utah trip seemed like such a hassle while we were trying to figure out how to get there but Josh and I both agree that every second of stress was worth it. We got plane tickets (I posted previously about that) and were able to stay for 6 days, much longer than we would have had we driven. Using priceline Josh found tickets for a great price. We left from Charlotte on Friday (the 23rd) at 6am. It was awfully early, but it was nice having the whole day on Friday to spend with family. We arrived in Salt Lake at 10am. My mom picked us up at the airport as they were passing through Salt Lake on their way down to Provo. That worked out perfectly. It wasn't completely planned that way. The car was pretty full. We took 4 very large suitcases as we were worried about not fitting all of our stuff in our car on the way home later this month. We left 3 of those 4 suitcases in Provo at our house and the one we brought back belongs to Josh's family. Between our 4 suitcases, 4 carry-ons, our bodies, my mom, her mom and dad and their luggage, we just barely fit. It wasn't the most comfortable 45 minute drive, but it was worth it.

We spent a lot of the week enjoying the beauty of Utah. I must admit that being in the Southeast has really made me miss the West. I never think I'm going to miss it but it was really nice being back. It really felt like we were home (which we technically were since we stayed at our place). We took a drive up the canyon to Squaw Peak where we took in the amazing site of the city (cities). That is one of the prettiest places I've been. The drive up is beautiful and the view really is breathtaking.

We spent two days in Salt Lake visiting church sites. Since my grandparents are not members of the church we used this as a great time to teach them about what we love and know to be true :)

Sunday was my beautiful niece Lydia's blessing. It was Josh's first time being part of a baby blessing and he really enjoyed it. I love seeing my husband using his priesthood. Her blessing was really beautiful as is she. Being around her cute little self all week made Josh and I both very baby hungry. And yes, we know how easy it is to make one :)

The biggest highlight of the week was spending quality time with my grandparents. For those of you unaware, my mom is from England. Her entire family still lives over there which means we don't see them often. But they planned a long (6 week) trip to visit my mom and decided to go down to Utah for a week of it. That is the primary reason we flew out there. Now most british people are fun to be around in general, but my grandparents are over the top. Josh and I had smiles permanently plastered to our faces. Either that or we were busting up laughing. They were an absolute riot. Sometimes they got a little annoying, as my gran constantly rambles on about her past (and I mean constantly....always...it never stops). But they really were a lot of fun to be around.

During the week I tried to write down some things my gran and grandad said that were especially funny. It only lasted a couple days, and there was plenty more that was really hilarious. But this is what I have.

My gran is a nudist. She can't stand the feeling of clothes, especially when she is sleeping. So one day when my mom was mentioning to Josh and I how she is always walking around the hotel room naked, she said, "I don't like clothes, I can't help it. I'm permanent naked." If that doesn't make sense...it's because she uses permanent for constantly.

Another one we thought was pretty hilarious was when we passed the restaurant In-n-Out and we were talking about she said, "Oh burgers, like you drive in and then you drive out." Yep, that's exactly right.

As that In-n-Out conversation progressed it turned to drive in movies. She said, "You can drive in and make love in the backseat. Oooooh." That's what the kids used to do apparently :)

One morning Josh was running a little late getting ready and so they came in and saw our apartment while he was in the shower. When I told her he was in the shower she said, "Oh, I think I'll join him." She was serious. She probably would have jumped right in if it weren't for the fact that he finished just moments later. She really liked Josh. What can I say, he's a cutie!

In England they use naff for crap. Like that is a piece of crap. They would say that's a bunch of naff.

When we told her that she was drinking grape soda she kept mishearing what we were saying and then finally said, :"oh grape fooda." Yum...grape fooda.

And lastly, we found out that my gran does not like french kissing. It's a long story but somehow we got on the subject of hickeys followed by kissing, making out, etc. Then she talked about kissing with tongue and she freaked out. And I mean freaked. She demanded that we stopped talking about it before she got sick. Haha.

My grandad was full of jokes. Every thing that was said was responded to with a joke from grandad. I don't know where he gets them all. Lucky for the girls we didn't have to hear the inappropriate ones. They can get pretty bad. He did have one pretty funny one that I liked. We were all talking about our rings (wedding bands, engagement rings) and he said, "I was always told there were three rings. The engagement ring, the wedding ring and then the suffering." Ha! I loved it.

We had an absolute blast in Utah. We really enjoyed every minute of it. It was hard saying goodbye, not knowing when we will see everyone again. Joe and Karen won't be in Utah when we get back which will be really sad. They are moving to New Mexico in just a few days. They will be missed a lot!

We are happy to be back in SC for a couple weeks before we head back to Utah for good. Well at least until we are done with school :)
