The other thing we miss....furniture. It's kind of difficult because the team managers and the single guys apartments are all furnished but ours isn't. We had to pay a lot of extra money to get it furnished so we opted out of having the complex furnish it for us. And it's proving to be harder to furnish it than we thought it would be. I figured we would be able to find lots of great steals on craigslist, but we haven't found much. Luckily I have a wonderful sister who let us borrow a queen mattress and box spring. I drove up to Virginia last week and strapped the mattress and box spring to the top of our car and drove back to North Carolina all in one day. Luckily it's only about a 2 and a half hour drive! It was also great seeing Jamie, Mark and the kids! We slept on a blow-up mattress for the first 3 nights and I was dying for a real bed.
On Saturday Jenn and I hit up some yard sales. Josh and I had found a couple couches on craigslist that seemed nice but both were $50. But at the yard sale I found one for $25. It wasn't very nice looking (a little dirty and not the best fabric) but it is super comfortable and only $25! I just couldn't pass that up. So I paid for it and we went and picked it up that night. Then that night we also went to Wal*Mart and picked out some sheets to cover it. I was looking at a couple greens and browns but decided on a deep red. I think it will really add some color to our dull apartment. So I started sewing the cover today. I started with the fitted sheet which stretches over the back and down over the bottom cushions. The I used the flat sheep and made pillow covers. It only made four covers and I have five pillows so I'll need to grab another flat sheet. But there was some left over to cover the bottom as well. And with the help of some needle and thread and our handy dandy stapler the bottom looks pretty good...I think!
So we're settling in pretty nicely. The apartment is still pretty bland but hopefully that will change over time. Josh has been out selling for almost a week now. He's doing pretty well. It's taking some time to get used to the area and the people he's selling to, but I think things will pick up soon.
We also live underneath a monster. We are very blessed in Provo. Although people live above us, we barely ever hear them. Our apartment is so old and the walls are SO thick so the only time we ever hear the upstairs people is when they turn their base up really loud. That is not quite the case in this apartment :) The person who lives above us, whoever it is, walks like a dinosaur. I don't know if they actually walk like a dinosaur but that's what it sounds like. A lot of times I think they're jumping or dancing. It could be a dog...or children. Whatever it is, it's annoying.
This blog sounds so negative but we really are grateful for the opportunity to spend the summer here. Our apartment is really nice and we are close to friends and family and we're excited to make some money...hopefully! :)
