Provo Adventures

There are days that I love Provo and days that I hate it. I know hate is a strong word, but I bet you'll agree after this blog...

Today while I was at school Josh was cut off by a man on 900 E. He pulled in front of Josh without a turning signal. Josh calmly changed lanes and went around him. To "give him a taste of his own medicine" Josh completed his next turn without a signal. The man honked and Josh wasn't hesitant to give him the bird. Josh doesn't flip many people off but apparently the guy was cutting people off and driving like a jerk. After Josh turned onto a side street leading up to Josh's uncle's house, the man proceeded to follow him. The man drove up on Josh's left and tried to run him into the parked cars on Josh's right, which forced Josh to slam on his brakes. After he stopped the man did a U-turn so he was right in front of Josh and got out of his car to yell at Josh. Josh rolled down his window and proceeded to tell him to use his signal and drive better. After a minute or two of yelling Josh said he was leaving and drove around the man's car while he was still yelling. The man got back in his car and started following Josh again. He again tried to run Josh off the road into the parked cars on his right. Josh stopped again and for almost killing him gave him the bird again (not the smartest move, but seriously...come on). This put the man over the top. The man did another U-turn and got out of his car. He started walking towards Josh saying that if he was willing to give someone the bird he had to be willing to fight them. He approached the car and while continuing to swear and threaten to fight Josh the man started pulling on the door handle. Unfortunately Josh doesn't think like I do in situations like this (ALWAYS LOCK THE DOOR FIRST) so the man started to open the door in fury and rage. Josh grabbed the handle of the inside of the door and started pulling back. During the fight to get the door open, the entire interior of the door was ripped off. After that happened the man (a little freaked out) got back in his car and Josh quickly got 911 on the phone. He gave them his license plate number as the man was driving away. They took about 30 minutes but eventually found the man and brought him back to the scene. Then the questions started. Josh was honest and told the police officer that he shouldn't have flipped him off. The stories matched almost perfectly except for one thing. The man said that he never said he wanted to fight. He was just trying to open the door to "talk". (HA) Since the interior of the car was broken and the man was only trying to talk, nothing will be done.

We're pretty sure the cop thought Josh was some punk 20 year old just being a jerk and so he didn't take him seriously. I wish I could have been there to be a buffer for the cop. There were local witnesses but all of them said that Josh was holding the inside handle and so they couldn't see how the man had broken it. My question: why would Josh break his own door handle? And why would the door break if the man was calmly opening the door to talk?

They filed a report and will submit it to the courts and they will decide if there is a case. If there isn't, Josh can appeal it and take him to court but the officer said that both Josh and the other guy would probably be charged for disorderly conduct. I understand that what Josh did wasn't right and he was probably provoking the guy, but does that really give him the right to do all those other things?

What I want to know...

How on earth does someone try to run another person off the road, threaten to fight them and then proceed to cause hundreds of dollars of damage to their car then just walk away without a thing happening to them?

Let me know what you think...

Here are some pictures of the damage.

Kind of ridiculous...right?

(on a happy note...my swimsuit came today! and it's way cuter on me than that model!!)

I am pissed for you guys. That is just crazy. I am glad you were not in the car Dana who knows what that guy might have done. I hope things work out. What a total jerk, and the police sound like they were pretty awful as well.
