Wilde Oaks

I write blog posts about Jacob and Valerie's cabin quite often, it feels, so I thought I would come with a title other than, "the cabin" or "the cabin, again." Wilde Oaks is the name of the cabin (Val's maiden name is Wilde).

Two weekends ago we got to go up to Val's cabin for a few days. It was such a blast. It was a little different than usual, considering we've never gone up there in the summer. There isn't A/C in the cabin, so apparently people avoid going up there in the summer. But we hadn't been in so long, so we had to make the trip before baby comes. We headed up there on Friday evening. It was us, Jacob and Valerie and Kelly and Perry. We got there, made some pizza and played some games. Jacob has recently gotten very into board games, so he had a million different new games for us to try. All of them were really fun, despite thinking they all looked crazy/ridiculous. :) On Saturday we pretty much just hung out. Josh and Jacob went out on the four wheelers for a while. We played with Jack (Jacob and Val's little boy) a ton and we ate a lot of food. This was the first time I didn't get to go out on the four wheelers. It was pretty sad. Oh well, next time! We made delicious french dips for lunch on Saturday, played lots more games and then Val's brother Elliot and his wife Jessica showed up Saturday night with their little girl, Lily. We ate an amazing dinner of tacos by Kelly and Perry and we were just setting up for a giant game of Catan when Lily started throwing up. Elliot and Jessica had been there for a grand 4 hours and they decided to take Lily home. I felt so bad! We really missed them! Sunday morning we took our time getting up (because we all went to bed so late on Saturday), ate breakfast, played some more games, ate lunch, packed, cleaned and hit the road.

There have been quite a few wildfires in Utah this season, and there just happened to be a big one in the valley that we drive through to get to the cabin. On Saturday night we could see the smoke and even flames from the third story of the cabin. It was a little unnerving, but the fires weren't that close. They were miles and miles away. But on the way home on Sunday we got diverted to a different highway since the one we usually take drove right through the fires. I was totally bummed because I wanted to see them, but we still saw quite a bit even being as far from them as we were. During our short stay at the cabin the fire went from 8,000 acres to nearly 40,000 acres. Needless to say, the air quality isn't super great around here right now.

But our cabin trip was a ton of fun, as always! I didn't take too many pictures, as you can tell! Whoops. Most of my pictures are of Jack and the fires. Haha. Exciting. Thanks Jacob and Valerie, we had a blast!

  1. It was a fun weekend, despite the heat, dust, and extreme dryness up there...I guess you could say it was unlike any cabin trip before :) Seriously though we're glad you guys like going down, we always love going with you!

  3. One of those crazy fires caused Mark's brother Ryan and his family to be evacuated from their house. They live in Saratoga Springs. It was actually pretty crazy. Anyway, looks like a fun trip!
